Practicing Self Care ![]()
When I was young, a long time ago, self care wasn’t something that was talked about. ![]()
We were told to “just get on with it”or it was seen as being lazy if you took time to yourself. ![]()
But self care is a more holistic approach to help you maintain or even perhaps improve your physical, mental and emotional health. It’s things like eating well, having a good sleep routine and getting enough sleep, setting boundaries and being able to relax so that it helps manage any stress and your overall well being. ![]()
Now self care is everywhere and people are realising how important it is. ![]()
It doesn’t have to be anything big. It can simply be lighting some candles, having an early night, I’ve done it his the last week and it’s made a difference to how I’ve felt, having a lovely healthy meal. But what you do doesn’t matter as much as how you treat yourself. ![]()
Don’t feel guilty about setting boundaries, listening to your body and recognising when your nervous system needs a break. ![]()
Self care has changed from survival to awareness. It’s changed from “keep going no matter what” to “what do I actually need right now?”![]()
I’m learning to pay more attention to my body after a short illness period. ![]()
So self care can be as simple as that. ![]()
Self care isn’t selfish, it’s one of the most important investments that you can make in your wellbeing. ![]()
One of the hardest parts of self care for me is doing nothing, I can’t just sit and relax but I’m learning. So sometimes I just go for a walk which then helps me to relax, particularly if that walk involves going for a wee coffee. ![]()
What’s the hardest part of self care for you to actually practice? ![]()

Ok this coffee actually involved work, but I did walk here. 😂

Weekly Affirmations ![]()
Why do affirmations work for anxiety?![]()
Because they help retrain your brain from shifting away from negative thoughts toward a more calm and rational view. ![]()
Like practicing gratitude the more you do it the more beneficial it is. ![]()
Anxiety is like a loop of negative self talk and affirmations replace that thought process with “I can’t” with “I can”. ![]()
With anxiety there’s a fear that this feeling will stay forever, but it doesn’t have to be that way. ![]()
When your heart races, your thoughts spiral and you can feel overwhelmed. Your emotions are like waves, they rise, peak and eventually settle. ![]()
One affirmation you can use when you feel like this is ![]()
“This feeling will rise and fall” ![]()
Just remind yourself that you’ve felt this way before, that has passed before so it will pass again. ![]()
Remember repetition is key to changing those subconscious thoughts. The feeling is only temporary. ![]()
