Sign

Life has a funny way of feeling like the photo at the side sometimes, doesn’t it?

One moment, you’re sure you know exactly where you’re going. The next, you’re staring at a signpost with lots of options, all pointing in different directions, none of them clear and all of them demanding attention.

When you’re living with anxiety or carrying the weight of past trauma, this confusion becomes more than metaphor, it becomes a way of life.

You second guess your choices.
You question your instincts.
You fear that taking the “wrong” path could lead to disaster.

And so, like Alice in Wonderland,  you hesitate. You stay stuck. Or worse, you follow the loudest direction which is often the one lined with overthinking, people pleasing, or many of the other fear based decisions.

But what if none of the paths were wrong?
What if each twist and turn was actually a part of your self-discovery? What if you were meant to be right where you are so that there was something you could learn from it before moving on?

The Myth of the One Right Way

We’re taught at an early age to make sure we take the “right” path, as if there’s a single straight line that leads to happiness, success, and peace.

But trauma and anxiety can distort our internal compass. We become hyper-aware of danger, wired to scan for threat, and trained to avoid risk at all costs.

In that state, even positive change can often feel terrifying.

That’s when we follow signs like:

  • “This way (but only if you’re sure)”

  • “Wrong way (if anyone might judge you)”

  • “Over there (where you’ll be acceptable)”

We take the scenic route, the one that goes through perfectionism, people pleasing, self doubt, and shame.

And then we wonder why we get exhausted.

Reclaiming Your Inner Guide

Here’s the truth: the path forward isn’t out there, it’s inside.

Healing from anxiety and trauma doesn’t come from picking the “perfect” route. It comes from rebuilding your trust in yourself.

Your intuition.
Your body.
Your truth.

In my work with clients, we don’t just talk about the path. We uncover the part of you that knows, the part buried under the fear, the part that learned to survive by over adapting. We gently bring that part back online, through using tools like hypnotherapy and silent counselling we calm the chaos long enough for clarity to return.

And that’s when the signs begin to make sense.
Not because they changed, but because you did.

The Distractions Aren’t the Problem

Of course, you’ll still meet distractions, after all life continues to happen. There will be tempting turn-offs that can promise quick fixes or emotional bypassing.
You’ll maybe even see signs that echo old stories: “Not good enough”, “Be quiet”, “Don’t rock the boat”.

But with a calm, regulated nervous system and a stronger sense of self, those signs will no longer have the same pull. You can smile at them like an old friend, infact you might even laugh.

And then…
You choose the way that honours you and is right for you.

Your Wonderland Is Waiting

Every step you take towards healing is a reclaiming.
Of your voice.
Of your boundaries.
Of your freedom.

You don’t have to know exactly where you’re going to begin, you just have to be willing to turn inward, quiet the noise, and trust that the path will unfold as you walk it.

Wonderland

So if you’re staring at a confusing signpost right now, feeling unsure, anxious, afraid to choose, know this:
You’re not lost, you’re on the edge of transformation.

And just maybe, that rabbit hole leads to your greatest becoming.
